What is a salon?
“A salon is a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine taste and increase their knowledge of the participants through conversation. These gatherings often consciously followed Horace’s definition of the aims of poetry, ‘either to please or to educate'”
A salon is different than a regular show of hafla–it is a chance for dancers of all levels to perform for an audience comprised entirely of fellow dancers and students, and is intended as more of a “test kitchen” or “practice space” with snacking, schmoozing and bonding thrown in the mix. You could refine a piece that isn’t quite ready for the stage; share something new, silly, or deeply personal; share a talent we didn’t even know you had; whatever you want!
A salon is a safe, casual, non-public space to share in the dance with your fellow dancers and only fellow dancers. Any and all bellydance students, teachers, performers, and musicians are welcome to attend! To help support the “by dancers, for dancers” vibe of the gathering, no significant others or non-dancing friends or family, please.
If you or your students would like to perform, please get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information!
