Mm Mm Monday – Students of Deep Roots Dance, Nomaditude

I feel like a little personal Mm Mm is in order, after the video of my sweet students was made available on YouTube. This group of ladies has been a dedicated bunch of dancers, and this performance represents so much more than just a performance. Some brand spankin’ new dancers even joined the chorus, having never performed tribal bellydance before (some never having performed anything ever!). This performance stands out to be as an example of their passion and joy for the dance, and so many reasons I love them each dearly.

The week before the performance, just before the final dress-rehearsal in fact, I got doubly-challenging life-changing news. My brother was in critical condition in a hospital many states away from his home, and my husband was diagnosed with cancer. To say my world was rocked would be an understatement. But in trying to deal with all the ramifications of these two pieces of news, I was unable to be at either the final dress-rehearsal or the performance itself. My Nomaditude gals, which is my intermediate student troupe, took the reins without question and helped guide the newer dancers in their first tentative steps toward the stage. I felt horrible to not be able to be there, but it was such a blessing to me to have them confidently go forth and make this show a success for themselves. I am so proud of them.

I need to wait until I’m home to watch the clip, but just wanted to say I hope that your personal life challenges are easing and I’m sending thoughts of good health to your brother and husband. Also, congratulations for having such a wonderful student troupe!
