Mm Mm Monday – John Compton’s Tray Dance

A quintessential, genuine American bellydance gem, John Compton and Hahbi Ru never fail to incite us to riotous cheers and zaghareets, and John’s famous tray dance never disappoints. There are many videos from various years of this same dance, but this is one of my favorites. I was with my inFusion Tribal family that year, teaching and performing, and cheering and zaghareeting right along with everyone else. The video quality isn’t as great as some of the newer footage, but I can honestly say that it’s not just because I was in the audience at this performance that I like this one best. Though the dance is “the same”, there are nuances to it which change with every performance, including the audience reactions and John’s interaction with them. This one is my fave.
